we celebrate the 30th Anniversary ... |
(transformed from an article by Walter Dohr)
By the end of the sixties, the choir „Constantia” at Weingartsgasse was pretty much down. This was due to the fact that the then choir director Heinz Görgens did leave, taking up a new appointment as a musician at a church in the city of Aachen.
Even though the new president of the choir, Dieter Otterbach, did look out for new and young singers, only a few did visit the rehearsals. Not only there was a lack of singers, but also of a conductor. Meanwhile, word did go around that a young and ambitious musician might be available; and his high reputation even did reach Weingartsgasse.
But first, the conductor from Lomahr was to be convinced to play his role on the banks of the river „Sieg”. The presidential team of the choir along with some enthusiastic members did bring together as many singers as possible at the choir's meeting place, that is the |

guest house „Sieglinde”. Nevertheless, Mr. Kappes was'nt convinced spontaneously to lead our choir „Constantia”.
By the (lucky) end, he did show up for the next rehearsals, and such did begin a most fruitful career for both the choir director as well as for the choir itself. Very soon, the work of the choir director not only was admitted by the choir's members, but also by the public of our hometown, Hennef.
After the executive board has decided for the audience hall of the Kopernikus secondary school at Hennef, to present the regular annual concerts of the choir.
Even though the new choir director was first sceptical about this idea, he nevertheless pursued the singers with great vigour and zest for action. From a contemporary point of view, this foresighted decision was a genuine stroke of luck to be regarded in the chorus history and association life. |
Determined and considered action as well as an exemplary activity embossed executive board work - a new generation tackled the diverse tasks and destinations of the association ambitiously and then discovered the general approval of the new choirmaster that received a lot of applause and recognition in the unforgotten spring and fall concerts because of programming, the hihly reputed soloists and ensembles.

Not only during the annual concerts, now taking place at „Meys Factory”, and not only during the eventful trips abroad Karl-Josef Kappes has worked succesfully with „Constantia”, but also during the disk recordings document his musical diligence.
The intention of this year's anniversary concert on October 4th, 1998, at „Meys Factory”, is to appreciate consciously the chorus pedagogic and musical work of the conductor: an intention, that pursued already with the successful anniversary concert at the 25-year anniversary of the choirmaster in the secondary school auditorium
along with the world famous 'Boy's Choir' from Philadelphia, visiting Hennef and Weingartsgasse at that time. |
Being a choir director for more than 30 years - that's a proud time. Only the very few may work that long for a choir and its members.
Mr. Kappes is one of the few, because of his never ending and patient work. Both, the choir and it's association, do wish Mr. Kappes any success in the future
To honour Mr. Kappes, there has been a great concert on October 4th, 1998. which took place at Meys Factory, Hennef.
